At the global conference “WebX 2024” organized by CoinPost Inc., which brings together major players from Japan and abroad, Jun Watanabe, President of Sony Network Communications Inc., and Sota Watanabe took the stage.
They discussed “Soneium,” the Ethereum L2 blockchain announced just on the 23rd by Sony Block Solutions Labs, a joint venture between Sony Group and Startale.

Sota Watanabe is known as a key person in the Web3 industry, representing Japan as the founder of Astar Network and Startale Labs.
Sony Block Solutions Labs is a new company established in September 2023 to share the knowledge and experience of Startale and Sony Group, and to jointly develop blockchain technology for establishing a global Web3 infrastructure.
The company aims to promote the adoption of Web3 technology by building a global blockchain infrastructure that will serve as the foundation for various killer applications, combining Startale’s Web3 expertise with Sony’s technological capabilities, content, brand, and extensive experience in various fields.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF SONEIUM MINATO LAUNCH
Sony Block Solutions Labs also explained about the newly announced Soneium Minato and its incubation program “Soneium Spark.”
Soneium Minato is a new blockchain developed as a Layer 2 solution for Ethereum (ETH). It’s an open and publicly accessible testnet that provides an environment for developers and creators to build Web3 applications.
Its main purpose is to promote the adoption of Web3 technology.
Soneium Minato’s features include providing Ethereum (ETH) compatible development tools and offering a fast, low-cost development environment. As it’s a testnet, it’s possible to try services without using actual cryptocurrencies. If successful, it’s expected to move towards mainnet activation.
SONEIUM SPARK INCUBATION PROGRAM
Soneium Spark is a program designed to promote the growth of the Soneium ecosystem.
It supports the formation of a community of developers and creators, collecting feedback and using it to improve services.
Early access is expected to not only benefit developers but also allow users to shape the future of these applications through engagement and feedback.
The venture capital (VC) for Soneium Spark was also announced.

ROLE OF ASTR
The ASTR token will not only maintain its existing role on Astar Network (L1) but is also expected to expand its token utility, being used in multiple projects deployed on Soneium L2, creating further demand and increasing recognition.
